Kia India has taken a groundbreaking step in automotive logistics by launching the country’s first double-decker freight train for SUV transportation. Unveiled in February at Penukonda railway station, this initiative is set to revolutionize vehicle logistics by enhancing efficiency and increasing capacity.
So far, Kia has successfully transported over 60,000 SUVs via the railway network to northern, eastern, and western India. With a capacity of 264 cars per trip, the new double-decker train more than doubles the efficiency of conventional freight trains, which typically carry around 100 vehicles.
This move not only streamlines logistics for car manufacturers but also aligns with India’s infrastructure and sustainability goals. By promoting rail-based transportation, Kia is reducing dependency on road freight, cutting emissions, and contributing to the government’s vision of making India a global leader in manufacturing and green logistics.
Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior Vice President & Head of Sales and Marketing, Kia India, emphasized the transformative impact of this initiative, stating, “The launch of India’s first double-decker freight train for SUVs is a major step toward modernizing transportation infrastructure. With reduced transit times, customers will receive their SUVs faster, reducing waiting periods. This innovative, efficient, and eco-friendly logistics solution will not only accelerate our growth but also contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future.”
By pioneering rail-based car transportation, Kia India is setting new benchmarks for efficiency, sustainability, and innovation, paving the way for the future of automotive logistics in the country.
