Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port has initiated a comprehensive renovation project for the iconic Bascule Bridge at the Kolkata Dock System, aiming to preserve the historic structure while enhancing operational efficiency.

The bridge, a key infrastructure asset within the port complex, plays a vital role in facilitating vessel movement and internal connectivity. Over the years, it has also become a landmark symbol of the port’s engineering heritage.

Officials stated that the renovation will involve structural strengthening, modernization of mechanical systems, and safety upgrades to ensure long-term reliability. The project is expected to minimize operational disruptions while safeguarding the bridge’s historic character.

The initiative underscores the port authority’s commitment to maintaining critical maritime infrastructure and supporting smooth cargo operations at one of India’s oldest and most strategically important ports.
