Liege Airport has strengthened its cargo connectivity with China following the launch of a new scheduled freighter service operated by Suparna Airlines, directly linking Liege with Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport. The service, which commenced operations on January 5, marks the first-ever direct air cargo connection between Liege and Chongqing, opening a new gateway between Western China and Europe.

The addition of Chongqing to Liege Airport’s cargo network is a strategic milestone for the Belgian hub, widely recognised as Europe’s largest freighter airport. The route not only expands Liege’s footprint in China but also reinforces its role as a critical logistics bridge between Asia and Europe at a time when supply chains are increasingly focused on speed, reliability and diversification.

Chongqing is one of China’s most important industrial and logistics centres, with a strong presence in e-commerce, high-technology manufacturing, automotive production and advanced industrial sectors. The new scheduled connection is expected to support the movement of e-commerce shipments, high-value technology goods, automotive components and general industrial cargo, offering shippers a faster and more direct solution into the European market.

Torsten, Vice President Sales & Marketing at Liege Airport, said, “We are proud to welcome Suparna Airlines to Liege Airport and to launch our first direct scheduled connection with Chongqing. Chongqing is an important new addition to our network and further confirms Liege’s role as the most trusted and efficient gateway between China and Europe.”

From the Chinese side, the launch is also seen as a significant step in expanding Chongqing’s international air cargo reach. A representative of Chongqing Airport management said:

“The launch of this direct scheduled service to Liege marks an important step in expanding Chongqing’s international cargo network. This new connection strengthens trade links with Europe and enhances Chongqing’s role as a key logistics hub in Western China.”

With the introduction of this new route, Liege Airport continues to deepen its Asian network while building long-term partnerships with international cargo airlines. The airport said the service aligns with its broader strategy of supporting global logistics flows, cross-border e-commerce growth and evolving trade requirements between China and Europe.
