The Port of Los Angeles has handled 892,340 TEUs, marking an 8 per cent increase from last year and setting a new record for the month in the port’s 117-year history.
The port concluded its fiscal year on 30 June, processing 10.5 million TEUs — its third consecutive year surpassing the 10-million mark, making it the only port in the Western Hemisphere to do so without vessel backups.
In June, loaded imports reached 470,450 TEUs, up 10 per cent from last year, while loaded exports grew 3 per cent to 126,144 TEUs. Empty containers saw a 7 per cent increase to 295,746 TEUs.
For the first half of 2025, the port handled 4.95 million TEUs, a 5 per cent increase over the same period in 2024.
Gene Seroka, Executive Director of the Port, said: “Some importers are advancing their year-end holiday cargo to avoid potential tariff hikes later in the year. July could become our peak season as businesses adjust to trade uncertainties.”
Last month, the Port of Los Angeles entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the City of Shafter and The Wonderful Company to enhance two-way trade links with California’s Central Valley.
