Maersk has announced the introduction of inland peak season surcharges (IPSS) for shipments routed through Naples and Salerno, aimed at managing cargo volumes during the high-demand period.
The new surcharges will apply to inland transport and handling, reflecting increased pressure on trucking, rail, and port infrastructure during the peak shipping season. Maersk said the measures are intended to ensure capacity availability, maintain schedule reliability, and balance demand across key Italian gateways.
Shippers and freight forwarders are advised to factor in the additional costs when planning shipments via Naples and Salerno, as the surcharges will affect both full container loads (FCL) and less-than-container loads (LCL). Industry observers noted that such seasonal adjustments are increasingly common as carriers respond to congestion and market dynamics.
Maersk emphasised that the IPSS is a temporary measure tied to the peak season and will be reviewed regularly based on cargo flow and operational conditions.
