The Manipur Government has accorded Industry Status to the “Logistics” Sector to encourage investments in the logistics sector in the state.

According to the state Department of Textiles, Commerce & Industries, the proposal for according industry status to logistics was approved in the meeting of the Governor-in-Council held on May 29, 2025. The proposal was taken up in pursuance of the recommendations of the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC), Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India, for integration of Industry 4.0 in manufacturing and strengthening of logistics in the North Eastern Region, it stated.

“Consequent upon the grant of Industry Status, all logistics and warehousing units established or to be established in the State of Manipur will become eligible to avail benefits and incentives under the extant Manipur Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy 2022 and other relevant schemes of the state government,” it added.

The government reiterated the need to develop a logistics park and related infrastructure at the exit-entry points of the state.

“Manipur holds a high potential as a strategic economic corridor in the North Eastern Region due to its geographic location, Act East Policy linkages, and improving infrastructure. Manipur is the gateway to South East Asia, and it is central to India’s strategy of economic and strategic integration with ASEAN countries. Government is investing heavily in connectivity, trade infrastructure, and cross-border cooperation. Thus, development of logistics park and related infrastructure at the exit-entry points of the state is the need of the hour,” it mentioned.
