Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has announced a major leadership transition after its Board of Directors approved changes to the company’s top management, effective April 1, 2026.

Under the new structure, Mr. Takeshi Hashimoto will assume the role of Chairman, while Mr. Jotaro Tamura has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Hisashi Umemura will serve as Vice President, and Mr. Kazuya Hamazaki has been named Representative Director and Vice President.

The leadership change comes amid significant shifts in the global shipping and logistics environment, as MOL prepares for long-term, sustainable growth. The company said the transition is designed to ensure a smooth handover to next-generation management and strengthen decision-making in an increasingly complex business landscape.

MOL noted that the timing aligns with the transition from Phase 1 to Phase 2 of its Group Management Plan, “BLUE ACTION 2035”, making it an opportune moment to adopt a new collaborative management framework. The updated structure will be led jointly by the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer, reinforcing agility and strategic coordination.

As part of this transition, CEO leadership will pass from Mr. Takeshi Hashimoto to Mr. Jotaro Tamura, marking a new chapter for the Japanese shipping major as it advances into the next phase of its long-term growth strategy.
