Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has begun tracking and recovering containers that washed ashore after its vessel, MSC Elsa 3, sank off the coast of Kochi, in India on 25 May.
The company is working closely with local authorities to manage the situation and secure the displaced cargo. As reported, to support the recovery, MSC has deployed staff to locate and safeguard the beached containers and is collaborating with authorities and salvage firms to coordinate salvage operations.
Meanwhile, the Indian Coast Guard has deployed three vessels to monitor the area for oil spills. Dispersants are being used to contain any leakage, and an aircraft has been dispatched for aerial assessments.
“All four company representatives of MSC have arrived in Kochi and have been advised to visit both the Indian Coast Guard and MMD office,s” Sarbananda Sonowal, India’s Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, said in a social media post.
