Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has been awarded with the “Best Shipping Line – Asia-Africa” accolade at the 2024 Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain (AFLAS) Awards.

Hosted by Asia Cargo News, the AFLAS Awards recognise outstanding performances and innovation within the logistics and shipping industry across Asia and beyond. The award ceremony was held in Shanghai, China, on 25 June 2024.

This victory marks the fifth time that the world’s largest container shipping company has won the title.

In recent decades, economic ties between Africa and Asia have significantly deepened, with Asia emerging as one of Africa’s primary trading partners.

To enhance trade between these two vibrant regions, MSC connects the two continents through its Africa Express and Ingwe services.

MSC also introduced the Dar Es Salaam Express service in 2024. This new service offers direct connections from the Far East to Mombasa and Dar Es Salaam, reinforcing the connections between East African and Asia.

MSC holds priority berthing rights at its Africa Hub in Lomé and major transshipment centers of Abidjan and Tema, facilitating efficient service to West Africa.

Additionally, to South Africa, MSC has implemented regular contingency plans between busy ports such as Durban and Coega, ensuring prompt container discharges.

Gilbert Cappellini, MSC Vice President (Liner- Asia), highlighted: “MSC is honoured to once again be recognised as the Best Shipping Line for Asia-Africa trade.

“We pride ourselves on providing superior shipping services and forging strong partnerships that drive success across these vital trade lanes, and we deeply appreciate the confidence that our valued clients place in us.

“Looking ahead, we remain steadfast in being the trusted partner in meeting the evolving demands of global supply chains, ensuring we uphold the high standards that MSC is known for.”

Earlier this June, the Port of Hamburg announced that MSC ships will be supplied with shore power in the future.

More recently, Wärtsilä and MSC agreed on the sale of the Trieste production facility.
