Kochi-based Navalt, India’s leading solar-electric boat manufacturer, has achieved a major milestone by delivering its first vessel to North America, marking a significant step in the company’s global expansion. The company’s luxury solar-electric tour boat, Limo, has been shipped more than 12,700 kilometres from Kerala to Halifax, Canada, where it will enter service with Halifax Harbour Tours.
The 10-metre catamaran was transported as a fully engineered knock-down kit packed into five containers, allowing cost-effective long-distance shipment and on-site assembly. The vessel has been specially adapted for Canadian conditions, featuring dual 20 kWh marine-grade lithium iron phosphate battery packs equipped with integrated heating systems to ensure reliable performance in cold weather. Propulsion is provided by twin 15 kW electric motors with a redundant dual battery-dual motor architecture.
Founded in Kochi by naval architect Sandith Thandasherry, Navalt is widely recognised for developing India’s first solar-electric ferry, Aditya, and has emerged as a pioneer in zero-emission marine mobility. The Halifax project represents the company’s first vessel delivery to North America and its first export of a boat as a fully engineered knock-down kit.
Assembly of the vessel is currently underway in Halifax, with commissioning expected in July. The delivery strengthens Navalt’s mission of expanding sustainable maritime transport solutions globally while showcasing India’s growing capabilities in clean marine technology.
