Paradip Port Authority (PPA) successfully responded to a distress situation involving MV SEA GULL 9, ensuring the safe arrival and berthing of the vessel carrying approximately 9,000 MT of crude palm oil.
The vessel encountered difficulties while approaching Paradip Port and requested tug assistance. The distress signal was received by Capt. Indranil Mukherjee, Harbour Master, Paradip Port Authority, who immediately coordinated the required response.
Under the coordination of Capt. A.C. Sahoo, Deputy Conservator, PPA, tug assistance was promptly arranged. The PPA tug proceeded to the vessel, located approximately 40 nautical miles from the port, and safely towed MV SEA GULL 9 towards the harbour.
Upon reaching the harbour approaches, the vessel entered the port on minimum engine power and was safely berthed at NQ2 under the supervision of Deputy Conservator Capt. A.C. Sahoo and pilot Capt. S.B. Panigrahi.
The coordinated response by Paradip Port Authority ensured the safe movement and berthing of the vessel, safeguarding its crew, cargo and maritime operations. The incident also highlighted the readiness and professional capabilities of PPA’s marine team in responding to vessel emergencies and operational challenges.
