Poland’s intermodal rail sector achieved a new milestone in the first quarter, recording its highest-ever freight volumes as demand for combined rail and logistics solutions continued to grow.
The strong performance was driven by increasing use of rail transport for containerised cargo, supported by expanding trade flows, improved connectivity, and rising demand for more sustainable freight options.
The growth highlights Poland’s growing importance as a key logistics hub in Europe, connecting major trade routes between Western Europe and Asia. Intermodal terminals and rail operators have continued to invest in capacity improvements and service enhancements to support rising cargo demand.
Industry stakeholders said the shift toward rail-based logistics is being supported by efforts to reduce emissions, improve supply chain resilience, and provide efficient alternatives to road transport.
The record first-quarter performance reflects the continued expansion of Poland’s intermodal network and its role in strengthening European freight connectivity.
