The Port of Keelung has achieved record-breaking cargo throughput and container volumes, marking a significant milestone in its operational performance and regional trade connectivity.

According to port authorities, both total cargo tonnage and container traffic, measured in twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), reached historic highs, driven by strong trade flows and improved port efficiency. The surge reflects increased activity across key shipping routes linking Taiwan with major markets in Asia and beyond.

Infrastructure upgrades, streamlined terminal operations, and enhanced logistics integration have supported the growth. Investments in port handling capacity and digital systems have enabled faster turnaround times and improved service reliability, attracting more shipping lines and cargo volumes.

Container traffic saw notable gains, fueled by steady demand in sectors such as electronics, machinery, and consumer goods. Bulk and general cargo segments also contributed to the overall rise, supported by resilient regional trade.

Port officials highlighted that the record performance underscores Keelung’s strategic importance as a key maritime gateway in Northeast Asia. Efforts are ongoing to further modernise facilities, expand capacity, and strengthen hinterland connectivity to sustain growth momentum.

Industry analysts note that while global trade remains subject to uncertainties, ports with efficient operations and strong regional linkages, such as Keelung, are well-positioned to capture emerging opportunities in shifting supply chains.
