Green Maritime, the maritime transportation industry’s environmental accreditation programme, recognised the Port of Montreal (MPA) for the 17th year in a row for its strong sustainable development practices and environmental performance.
The findings were presented at the annual GreenTech conference, which was held in Halifax from 5 to 7 June.
The port is rated in the top tier of the 59 participating port authorities, with perfect scores of 5 out of 5 in numerous areas, including Environmental Leadership, Waste Management, Dry Bulk Handling and Storage, Spill Prevention and Stormwater Management, and Community Relations.
The port authority also received a 4 out of 5 rating in the area of Air Emissions, Greenhouse Gases, and Air Pollution.
Julie Gascon, President and CEO of the MPA, said: “The success of Green Marine’s 2023 certification would not have been possible without the unwavering commitment and hard work of our teams rallying to maintain and surpass our high standards of environmental excellence every year.”
In February, the Port of Montreal and Contrecoeur Terminal Constructors General Partnership (CTCGP), formed by firms Pomerleau and Aecon, signed an agreement for the Contrecœur expansion project.
