Cargo operations at Pune International Airport have experienced a consistent increase over the last three months, indicating a rising demand from the local manufacturing and industrial sectors. According to airport officials, cargo volumes have progressively grown from 4,239 MT in August to 4,792 MT in September, and reached 4,932 MT in October. The figures for November are also anticipated to continue this upward trend.

Officials project that the airport’s domestic cargo throughput for FY 2024–25 could approach nearly 50,000 MT, fueled by robust activity from the automotive, pharmaceutical, electronics, engineering, and e-commerce sectors. This increase also encompasses a rise in export shipments, including fresh pomegranates, processed foods, and precision engineering components.

A significant factor in this growth is the newly integrated cargo terminal, which was inaugurated in August 2023. This upgraded facility has enhanced the speed and capacity of cargo processing, facilitating both domestic and international shipments. Improved cold-chain systems, dedicated handling bays, and streamlined documentation processes have made the airport more competitive for industries throughout Pune and its surrounding districts.

Officials noted that the airport’s expanding cargo ecosystem is a reflection of the region’s swift industrial development, particularly with the growing importance of e-commerce fulfillment centers, large manufacturing hubs, and pharmaceutical clusters.

With steady month-on-month growth and enhanced terminal infrastructure, Pune Airport is positioning itself as one of Maharashtra’s primary air-cargo gateways.
