Ms Roshni Aparanji Korati, IAS (2011), today assumed charge as the Deputy Chairperson of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), creating history as the first woman IAS officer to hold this prestigious position.
An officer of the Assam–Meghalaya cadre, Ms Roshni hails from Visakhapatnam, where she completed her entire education. Her appointment holds special emotional and symbolic significance, as her father had served as a School Head Master at the Visakhapatnam Port High School. In a proud continuation of this legacy, she has now taken on a senior leadership role within the same organisation, according to a release from the VPA.
Born on April 3, 1984, Ms Roshni is a Gold Medallist in Mass Communication from Andhra University. She brings with her a wealth of administrative experience spanning district, state, and central government levels.
During her career, she has served as Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jorhat, and later as Collector and District Magistrate of Jorhat district. She also held the position of Collector and District Magistrate of Dhemaji district in Assam, where she spearheaded several key rural development and welfare initiatives.
At the state level, Ms Roshni served as Secretary to the Government of Assam, including roles as Secretary, Elementary Education, and Mission Director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). She has also held important leadership assignments as Agriculture Secretary and Project Director of the Assam Rural Infrastructure and Agricultural Services (ARIAS) Society.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to public administration, she was conferred the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2018. She is widely acknowledged for her commitment, leadership, and people-centric governance.
Prior to her appointment at VPA, Ms Roshni was on central deputation, serving as Joint Development Commissioner at the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ).
Her appointment is expected to further strengthen the leadership at Visakhapatnam Port Authority and contribute significantly to the port’s growth and modernization initiatives.
