Fast-growing Scan Global Logistics has opened an office in Tanzania as it looks to capitalise on agriculture, mining and infrastructure projects.
The freight forwarder’s new office is located in Dar Es Salaam and will enable it to “serve the growing needs of a key economic hub” and “enhance its presence in the region”.
The new office will provide ocean, air, project, road, warehousing, customs clearance, domestic, and transit services to landlocked countries.
“A physical presence in Tanzania enables the ambitious logistics provider to build stronger relationships with local businesses, governments, and NGOs, fostering trust and enhancing collaboration,” SGL said.
“With a local office, SGL can provide efficient customs clearance and deliver reliable last-mile services to meet the region’s growing needs.”
The forwarder said the east African country is seeing an expansion in agriculture, mining, and infrastructure – including roads, railways, and ports.
Lars Syberg, chief executive of Europe, Middle East and Africa, excluding the Nordics, said: “I believe the Tanzanian market has a growing need for a strong local presence, and this investment positions us better to support our overseas partners.
“The timing is right for SGL to establish itself here, enabling us to accommodate the significant growth we anticipate in the east African region.”
Jan Andersson, who will be managing director of the new office, added: “Since we entered Kenya one year ago, it has become evident that many of our customers also have branches in Tanzania, presenting us with clear growth opportunities.”
The forwarder has been growing rapidly in recent years. In 2024, it added a presence in Ireland, expanded in Latin America and invested in Blu Logistics Brasil and ITN Logistics Group.
