    South Central Railway (SCR) registered best-ever performance in freight business during the Financial Year 2024-25, surpassing the best figures registered in FY24.

    The zone registered 144.140 million tonnes(mt) freight loading which is 2 per cent higher than the previous freight loading of 141.120 mt during 2023-24, according to a release.

    Similarly, in terms of freight revenue, SCR posted ₹13, 825 crores, marking a 2 per cent increase over the same in the previous year.

    Major thrust

    The zone has been giving a major thrust towards attracting new streams of freight business , while strengthening its existing freight basket. Special focus was given towards enhancing the infrastructure, work atmosphere at freight terminals, improvements to goods sheds, etc.

    The buoyancy in the zone’s loading was witnessed across all commodity streams during the year 2024-25. The approximate freight loading of the different commodities transported by the zone is as follows:

    Coal, the major commodity in the zone’s freight basket, contributed 70.147 mt of loading.

    Cement (along with Clinker) is the second largest commodity contributing 37.604 mt in loading. The freight loading of other major commodities included fertilizers, food grains, raw material for steel plants, iron ore, containers, among others, according to a release.
