Swan Defence and Heavy Industries (SDHI) on Thursday said it has secured a defence export contract from the Government of the Sultanate of Oman to build a naval training ship for the Royal Navy of Oman, with delivery expected within 18 months.
The vessel will be used for advanced naval training and maritime operations, marking an overseas defence order for the Indian shipbuilder as domestic yards step up their presence in global naval construction.
According to the company, the ship will be 104.25 metres long, with a beam of 13.88 metres and a displacement of up to 3,500 tonnes. It will feature classrooms, training offices, accommodation facilities and an auditorium, and will be capable of training up to 70 officer cadets at sea. The vessel will also be equipped with modern navigation and communication systems and will have helicopter operation capability.

The order comes amid rising overseas activity by Indian shipyards, supported by the Ministry of Defence’s push for defence production and the government’s broader maritime strategy. SDHI said the project aligns with India’s Amrit Kaal vision and efforts to expand exports of domestically built vessels.
