Indra, the premium boat service of state water transport department (SWTD), will begin night services in Kochi backwaters soon. The 100-pax double-decker boat will have premium facilities such as push-back seats, air conditioning, safety features and attractive interiors. The boat, powered by twin 20 kW electric motors, can achieve a top speed of seven knots.

It will have a special food counter by Kudumbashree.

As part of starting night services, more facilities, including a music system on the upper deck, will be arranged.

Duration of the night trip, covering Marine Drive, Bolgatty Palace, Vallarpadam Container Terminal, Vypeen, Kamalakkadavu, Fort Kochi and Willingdon Island, will be one hour. SWTD sources said the decision has been made considering demand from passengers. “We are expecting the services to be a hit during the upcoming tourist season,” said a source.
