V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin, has reported robust operational performance in the current financial year, recording a cumulative cargo throughput of 35.01 million tonnes during April 2025–January 2026.

The port handled 1.79 million tonnes more cargo compared with the same period last year, when volumes stood at 33.22 million tonnes, marking a 5.38% year-on-year growth.

Significantly, the milestone was achieved 14 days earlier than in the previous year, when a comparable volume was recorded on 8 February, underscoring improved efficiency and faster turnaround.

The strong performance has been attributed to optimised cargo handling processes, enhanced operational planning and ongoing infrastructure upgrades, reinforcing the port’s role as a key maritime gateway on India’s east coast.
