    V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin has reported a strong operational performance marked by a sharp surge in salt cargo handling and a new productivity milestone in coal operations, underscoring its growing efficiency as a key bulk cargo hub on India’s east coast.

    During April–December 2025, the Port recorded an exceptional 248.55% growth in salt cargo handling compared to the corresponding period in April–December 2024. The significant increase reflects sustained market demand, improved cargo evacuation systems, and the Port Authority’s continued focus on operational efficiency and streamlined bulk handling processes, reinforcing its role in facilitating coastal and international trade.

    In another major achievement, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority set a new operational benchmark at its CJ-1 Berth with the successful discharge of 73,488 metric tonnes of coal in just 42.22 hours, achieving an impressive average handling rate of 1,734 tonnes per hour (TPH). The performance surpasses the previous record and highlights the robustness of the Port’s infrastructure, meticulous operational planning, and seamless coordination among all stakeholders.

    Together, these achievements underline the Port Authority’s commitment to productivity enhancement, faster vessel turnaround, and operational excellence, further strengthening V.O. Chidambaranar Port’s position as a leading bulk cargo handling gateway on India’s east coast.
