A major milestone has been achieved in the development of the greenfield Vadhvan Port with the award of a ₹5,301 crore contract to Afcons Infrastructure for the construction of the port’s critical breakwater infrastructure.
The contract is one of the largest marine construction packages associated with the ambitious Vadhvan Port project, which is being developed on the Maharashtra coast to create a world-class deep-draft container and cargo gateway. The breakwater will play a crucial role in protecting the harbor basin from wave action and ensuring safe navigation and berthing conditions for vessels throughout the year.
Afcons Infrastructure, a leading engineering and construction company with extensive experience in marine projects, will undertake the design and construction of the breakwater under the awarded package. The project is expected to involve large-scale dredging, rock placement and specialized marine engineering works over the coming years.
Vadhvan Port is being developed as one of India’s largest port infrastructure projects and is expected to significantly enhance the country’s cargo-handling capacity. Once operational, the port will be capable of accommodating some of the world’s largest container vessels, helping strengthen India’s position in global maritime trade and reducing dependence on foreign transshipment hubs.
The port forms a key component of India’s long-term strategy to modernize maritime infrastructure, improve logistics efficiency and support export-led economic growth.
