Kerala’s flagship deep-sea port project, the Vizhinjam International Seaport, has been conferred with the prestigious National Project Excellence Award 2025 in the Mega Infrastructure category, marking a major milestone for one of India’s most ambitious maritime developments.

The award recognises Vizhinjam’s strategic importance and its potential to transform Kerala into a global shipping and transshipment hub. Designed as a next-generation deep-water port, Vizhinjam is expected to play a critical role in strengthening India’s position in international maritime trade and reducing dependence on foreign transshipment ports.

With this recognition, Vizhinjam joins an elite list of nationally significant projects that have previously received the honour, including the new Parliament building and the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh—both widely regarded as benchmarks in large-scale infrastructure development.

The National Project Excellence Award is jointly instituted by the International Institute of Projects and Program Management (i2P2M) and the Centre for Excellence in Project Management (CEPM), organisations known for promoting global best practices in project planning, execution, and governance.

Officials from Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt. Ltd., which is developing the port, received the award on behalf of the project at a formal ceremony held in New Delhi. The recognition underscores the project’s robust execution framework, engineering excellence, and its long-term economic and strategic value to the country.

The award is seen as a significant endorsement of Vizhinjam’s vision to emerge as a key gateway on major East–West shipping routes, reinforcing India’s maritime infrastructure ambitions.
