A parliamentary standing committee on railways conducted a comprehensive visit to the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) on Monday, underscoring growing parliamentary interest in one of India’s key maritime gateways.

The delegation was welcomed by VPA Deputy Chairperson Roshni Aparanji and senior port officials, who briefed the committee on the port’s operational performance, infrastructure, and future expansion plans.

During the tour, members inspected major operational zones and facilities, with port leadership highlighting current capabilities in cargo handling, mechanisation, and infrastructure development initiatives designed to enhance throughput and efficiency.

Officials also provided insights into sustainability and utility projects, including solar power integration and sewage treatment plant (STP) water recycling for industrial use. Investment opportunities and strategic measures to boost import-export activity through the port were key discussion points.

The visit reflects continued focus by central oversight bodies on enhancing port infrastructure, connectivity, and competitiveness as Visakhapatnam strengthens its role in India’s maritime trade network.
