V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port), Tuticorin has posted an impressive 27.01% year-on-year growth in limestone cargo movement during the April–October period of FY 2025–26, reinforcing its position as one of India’s fastest-growing maritime gateways for bulk cargo.
According to port officials, the surge reflects the port’s sustained focus on modernising cargo-handling systems, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring faster vessel turnaround—factors that collectively contributed to the sharp increase in throughput.
Limestone, a critical raw material for steel, cement, and infrastructure-related industries, forms a key component of India’s large-scale construction and manufacturing ecosystem. The growth in cargo volumes at VOC Port aligns with rising domestic demand supported by accelerated infrastructure development projects across the country.
The Port Authority has consistently strengthened its maritime infrastructure through mechanised handling facilities, enhanced storage capacities, deeper draft channels, and improved logistics connectivity. These initiatives have significantly bolstered the port’s ability to manage higher cargo volumes with enhanced reliability.
In a statement, the Port Authority reiterated its commitment to operational excellence and its strategic role in supporting India’s evolving logistics and industrial requirements. With continuous upgrades and focused performance improvement measures, VOC Port aims to further consolidate its position as a major contributor to the nation’s maritime trade ecosystem.
