V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port) recorded a significant improvement in operational efficiency during the first quarter of FY 2026–27, with Overall Ship Berth Day (OSBD) performance increasing by 11.8% compared to the corresponding period last year.
According to the port, Overall OSBD rose from 10,847 tonnes during April–June FY 2025–26 to 12,123 tonnes in April–June FY 2026–27, reflecting enhanced berth productivity and improved cargo handling efficiency across major cargo segments.
The port registered strong growth across multiple cargo categories during the quarter. Dry bulk cargo recorded the highest increase of 18.8%, followed by break bulk cargo, which grew 17.0%, while liquid bulk cargo increased by 13.9%. Container cargo and container throughput in TEUs each registered a 2.5% year-on-year increase.
The sustained improvement in operational performance highlights VOC Port’s continued focus on optimizing port operations, reducing vessel turnaround time, and enhancing cargo handling capabilities.
The port said the improved berth productivity reinforces its commitment to providing efficient and reliable services to the trade while strengthening connectivity and supporting India’s growing maritime and logistics sector.
