Wan Hai Lines has placed an order for six new container vessels at Chinese shipyards as part of its ongoing fleet expansion strategy, with the total contract value estimated at up to $552 million.
The vessels will be built in China and are expected to strengthen the Taiwanese carrier’s capacity on regional and long-haul trade routes. The order reflects Wan Hai’s efforts to modernise its fleet and meet growing demand for container shipping services across key global markets.
Industry sources said the newbuild boxships will feature improved fuel efficiency and environmental performance in line with evolving international regulations on vessel emissions and energy efficiency. The additions are also expected to enhance operational flexibility and support the company’s long-term growth plans.
The move comes as shipping lines continue to invest in new vessels to replace older tonnage and expand capacity in response to changing trade patterns. Modern container ships are increasingly designed with advanced technologies to reduce fuel consumption and improve sustainability.
