Wilson Sons has welcomed the MSC Orion at Salvador Container Terminal.
The ship is 366 metres long, with a 16-metre draft (depth), and can transport 15,000 containers. This is the first ship in its class to operate in Baía de Todos-os-Santos.
The mega ship arrived at the Salvador terminal, launching the normal route from Bahia to Asia, and necessitated the processing of 700 containers.
An MSC official said: “The first call of a 366-metre ship in Bahia is a cause for celebration at MSC. The operation of MSC Orion demonstrates and reiterates our commitment to offering transport capacity to boost the growth of Brazilian foreign trade.”
This operation is part of a direct route to Asia that began this month and will have weekly departures, enhancing ties not just with China but also with Far Eastern markets.
The new shipping route will allow Brazil’s North and North East to link more efficiently with these regions, while also allowing the Midwest and Southeast to solve logistical bottlenecks in the present supply chain.
MSC do Brasil, stated: “We are very proud to provide the Brazilian market with a service that provides direct calls between Asia and the Brazilian Northeast.”
Salvador Container Terminal Executive Director, Demir Lourenço, said: “Amidst the market changes triggered by increasingly larger ships, we had to be prepared to maintain our routes and attract new ones, such as what is now being done with the Asian continent.”
Recently, Wilson Sons started operations on the WS Dorado at Ponta da Madeira, Itaqui and Alumar terminals facilities in São Luís, Maranhão.
