Yang Ming Marine Transport has given a statement after a container aboard its YM Mobility vessel exploded at the Chinese Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan.

The Taiwanese shipping company expressed on 9 August that there are no longer any visible flames on board its vessel and that all crew members and on-site personnel are safe and sound.

Meanwhile, six tugboats have reportedly been deployed to secure the vessel’s safety and accelerate future responses.

Representatives from P&I Clubs, Classification Societies, and surveyors arrived on-site to work with the authorities.

Yang Ming’s technical specialists are available on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week to investigate the impact of the fire and the seaworthiness of YM Mobility.

Yang Ming noted that it is constantly collaborating with authorities and professionals to provide a timely reaction.

A Yang Ming official said: “Once the incident is fully resolved, we will assess the possibility and feasibility of vessel repairs, cargo transshipment, and schedule adjustments, with the safety of personnel and the vessel as the top priority.”

The exact cause of the incident remains unknown and is currently being investigated.

In July, Yang Ming appointed Cliff Pai as its new President.
