    In a landmark event held at the Business Development Centre of the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), the NMPA Golden Jubilee 10K Run was officially launched today, kickstarting a major fitness and community initiative to mark 50 glorious years of the Port’s service to the nation.

    The launch event was graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. A. V. Ramana, Chairman, NMPA; Shri Mundkur Shyamprasad Kamath, Managing Director of MRPL; Smt. S. Shanthi, Deputy Chairperson, NMPA; Dr. A. Srinivasa Rao, Pro Chancellor, Srinivas University; Rev. Dr. Praveen Martis SJ, Vice Chancellor, St. Aloysius University; Mr. Ganesha N Sharma, Executive Director, BNI Mangalore; Shri Padmanbhachar K., IOFS, CVO-NMPA; and renowned ultramarathoner Satish Gujaran. Senior port officers and members from Mangalore’s running and wellness communities also participated in the gathering.

    The NMPA Golden Jubilee 10K Run is scheduled for August 31, 2025, starting at 6:00 AM, and will feature three race categories — 10K, 5K, and 3K — aimed at encouraging mass participation from across Coastal Karnataka. The run is envisioned as a tribute to NMPA’s pivotal role in regional and national development, while fostering a spirit of fitness and community engagement.

    Launch Highlights

    The ceremony featured the unveiling of:

    • The official event logo

    • A dynamic promotional film

    • A specially curated route video

    • The event website for registrations and updates

    Several individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to the local wellness and running ecosystem were felicitated during the event, reflecting NMPA’s commitment to promoting a culture of active living in the region.

    NMPA’s Vision and Legacy

    Addressing the gathering, Dr. A. V. Ramana, Chairman of NMPA, described the Golden Jubilee Run as more than just a fitness initiative, calling it a symbolic start to a year of reflection, gratitude, and forward-looking growth. Tracing the Port’s journey from handling just 1 lakh tonnes of cargo in 1974 to over 46 million tonnes today, he outlined a bold vision to reach 50 million tonnes by FY 2025–26 and a Profit After Tax of ₹550 crores.

    Dr. Ramana emphasized that NMPA’s growth is deeply connected with the local ecosystem, including key industries like MRPL and MCF. He reaffirmed the Port’s role in supporting India’s ambitious goal of becoming a $60 trillion economy by 2047, through efficiency, innovation, and inclusive development.

    The NMPA Golden Jubilee 10K Run is being executed by Sports Reconnect, a leading sports management company, and is presented by NMPA in collaboration with multiple stakeholders. With wide anticipation and growing interest, the event is expected to attract hundreds of participants from across Karnataka, uniting them in celebration of health, legacy, and collective progress.
