DP World has launched Hyderabad’s first dedicated refrigerated (reefer) rail freight service from its Thimmapur Inland Container Depot (ICD) to Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority), in collaboration with Ocean Network Express (ONE). The new service marks a major milestone in cold chain logistics for the region, offering a tailored, sustainable, and efficient solution for pharmaceutical exporters.
This is the first-ever refrigerated rail movement from DP World Thimmapur, designed to provide end-to-end temperature-controlled logistics for sensitive pharmaceutical cargo. By moving shipments from road to rail, exporters gain the benefits of synchronized vessel connectivity, reduced transit variability, and consistent temperature management throughout the journey.
Each weekly train service can carry up to 43 forty-foot reefer containers, with four scheduled departures every month — shifting over 172 containers from road to rail. This modal shift is expected to reduce road congestion by eliminating the equivalent of 43 truck trips per day and cut carbon emissions significantly.
Every reefer container is powered by DP World’s proprietary power packs, ensuring precise temperature control during transit. Dedicated technicians accompany each train, supported by real-time digital monitoring systems to safeguard cargo integrity and ensure seamless communication with ground teams.
