The proposed ₹850-crore Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) for Nashik, seen as a major catalyst for the district’s industrial, agricultural and export growth, is still awaiting approval, the Central government informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The delay came to light after Member of Parliament Rajabhau Waje raised the issue during Question Hour, seeking clarity on the status of the long-pending project. Responding to a starred question, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal confirmed that an MMLP has been proposed for Nashik but remains at the appraisal stage, with no timeline yet for commencement of on-ground work.
The minister added that even after approval, completion of the first phase of the project would take at least three years.
Nashik’s strategic location makes it a strong candidate for a logistics hub. The district is well connected through the Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, major national highways and key railway routes, and lies around 220 km from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India’s largest container port.
The region is also a leading exporter of agricultural produce, including grapes, onions, pomegranates and vegetables. However, MP Waje told Parliament that the prolonged delay in implementing the logistics park is directly hampering Nashik’s economic potential and export competitiveness.
The proposed MMLP is expected to integrate road, rail and warehousing infrastructure, reduce logistics costs, and improve supply-chain efficiency for industries and farmers in the region. For now, stakeholders remain concerned as the project continues to await the Centre’s final approval.
