Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd has taken another significant step towards diversifying its product portfolio by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s K2 Cranes & Components Pvt Ltd for the design, development and manufacture of marine, defence and shipyard cranes and associated equipment.

The MoU was signed between Cmde MS Ramesh Menon, IN (Retd), Chief General Manager (BB&DEP), GRSE and Shri M Udayakumar, Managing Director, M/s K2 Cranes & Components Pvt Ltd, in the presence of Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd), Chairman and Managing Director, GRSE, Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd.) Director (Shipbuilding), Capt (IN) P Sunilkumar (Retd.), Director (Corporate Planning & Personnel), Shri Niranjan Bhalerao, Director (Finance) and other senior officials of GRSE and K2 Cranes & Components Pvt Ltd.

Under the agreement, the two companies will collaborate to indigenously design and manufacture cranes and related equipment for marine, defence and shipyard applications. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision and the “Make in India, Make for the World” programme, aiming to reduce reliance on imports while catering to both domestic and international markets.

The partnership will enable GRSE and K2 Cranes to jointly explore and implement profitable business opportunities in crane solutions required by naval, defence and commercial shipbuilding sectors in India and overseas.

While GRSE’s core focus remains warship construction and the building of specialised marine platforms, the shipyard has steadily expanded its engineering portfolio. Notably, GRSE holds the largest market share in India’s modular steel bridges segment, having delivered more than 5,900 bridges to clients across India and abroad.
