Trade operations through the Benapole Land Port, one of the busiest land border crossings between Bangladesh and India, have been suspended for three days, temporarily halting the movement of goods between the two countries.
Officials confirmed that import and export activities will remain closed during the suspension period, affecting cargo trucks carrying essential commodities, industrial raw materials, and consumer goods. However, passenger movement through the immigration check post is expected to continue as per regular schedules.
The temporary shutdown is reportedly due to scheduled holidays and administrative closure on both sides of the border. Customs, port, and clearing and forwarding (C&F) agent offices will resume full operations once the three-day period concludes.
Benapole handles a significant share of Bangladesh’s land-based trade with India, and the brief pause is expected to create a short-term backlog of trucks awaiting clearance. Port authorities have indicated that measures will be taken to expedite cargo handling once operations restart.
Trade stakeholders are closely monitoring the situation to minimize disruptions to supply chains and ensure swift normalization of cross-border commerce.
