In a significant boost to India’s green energy transition, the tanker MT FAIRWAY has sailed from Haldia Dock Complex (HOJ-1) carrying a landmark consignment of E20 EBMS (20% Ethanol Blended Motor Spirit) biofuel to Port Blair.

The voyage represents a crucial milestone in India’s sustainable fuel movement. While biofuel transportation is steadily expanding across the country, this shipment marks a breakthrough “final mile” delivery of E20 fuel to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands — strengthening cleaner energy access in the island territory and reinforcing the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat in maritime logistics.

The initiative was formally flagged off by Shri Jayasimha Ambour, Managing Director, Haldia Dock Complex, and Shri Arvind Kumar, Director, Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

Shri Rathendra Raman, Chairperson of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata, lauded the achievement, highlighting its strategic importance in accelerating India’s clean energy roadmap while strengthening coastal connectivity.

The movement underscores the growing integration of green fuels into India’s maritime supply chain and demonstrates the operational readiness of Indian ports to handle next-generation sustainable cargoes. As India advances toward higher ethanol blending targets, such initiatives play a pivotal role in reducing carbon emissions, promoting energy security, and enabling inclusive growth across mainland and island regions alike.
