    Chennai Port Authority had the honour of hosting a distinguished delegation from the Hamburg Port Authority, led by Mr. Jens Meier, President of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) and CEO of HPA.

    The high-level visit marked a significant milestone in strengthening Indo-German maritime cooperation, fostering knowledge exchange, and advancing sustainable port development initiatives between the two leading port ecosystems.

    During the visit, senior officials of Chennai Port Authority engaged in comprehensive discussions with the Hamburg delegation on key areas including port digitalisation, green port initiatives, decarbonisation pathways, smart logistics integration, and future-ready infrastructure planning. The interaction provided a valuable platform to exchange best practices in port governance, innovation-driven operations, and climate-resilient maritime infrastructure.

    The delegation was briefed on Chennai Port’s modernization initiatives, capacity augmentation projects, and its strategic role in enhancing India’s maritime trade under the national port-led development vision. Emphasis was placed on sustainable growth, multimodal connectivity, and adoption of advanced technologies to improve operational efficiency and environmental performance.

    Mr. Jens Meier highlighted the importance of global collaboration among ports to address emerging challenges such as supply chain disruptions, energy transition, and digital transformation. He reiterated the role of international partnerships in accelerating innovation and achieving shared sustainability goals.

    The visit also included a detailed presentation on Hamburg’s port management model, green hydrogen initiatives, and smart port solutions, offering valuable insights for future cooperation. Both sides expressed keen interest in exploring structured collaboration in areas such as training, technology exchange, green shipping corridors, and joint knowledge forums.

    The engagement reflects the growing strategic alignment between Indian and German maritime stakeholders and reinforces the commitment of both ports to building resilient, sustainable, and globally competitive maritime gateways.

    Chennai Port Authority expressed its appreciation for the visit and looks forward to deepening engagement with Hamburg Port Authority in the years ahead, paving the way for stronger bilateral maritime ties between India and Germany.
