The Government of India has appointed Vir Vikram Yadav as the new Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), marking a key leadership change in the country’s aviation regulatory body.

Yadav, a senior bureaucrat with extensive administrative experience, takes charge at a time when India’s aviation sector is witnessing rapid growth and increasing regulatory complexity. His appointment is expected to bring renewed focus on safety oversight, capacity expansion, and policy reforms.

As DGCA chief, Yadav will oversee critical areas including airline safety compliance, airworthiness standards, and the regulation of both domestic and international flight operations. He is also expected to play a central role in addressing challenges such as rising air traffic, infrastructure constraints, and evolving technological requirements.

Industry stakeholders view the appointment as significant, given the need for strong regulatory leadership to support India’s ambition of becoming a major global aviation hub. Yadav’s tenure will be closely watched for policy direction and execution in a fast-expanding market.
