Indian Railways recorded steady growth in freight operations in June, with freight loading increasing by 4% compared with the previous period, reflecting continued momentum in cargo movement across the network.
The growth was supported by strong demand from key freight segments, including coal, minerals, industrial goods, and other essential commodities. The improvement highlights the railway sector’s ongoing role in supporting India’s supply chains and economic activity.
During the first quarter of FY27, Indian Railways freight loading also registered growth of around 1.5%, indicating sustained performance despite changing market conditions.
The national transporter has been focusing on improving freight efficiency through infrastructure upgrades, dedicated freight corridors, faster turnaround times, and enhanced logistics solutions to attract more cargo.
Officials said the continued rise in freight volumes reflects the impact of operational improvements and efforts to strengthen rail-based logistics as a cost-effective and sustainable transportation option.
