Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has commenced cargo operations with its inaugural international shipment, marking a significant milestone in the airport’s operational rollout. The first consignment, weighing 1,789 kg, was airlifted to Abu Dhabi, signalling the airport’s entry into the global air cargo network.
The launch of cargo services is expected to strengthen air freight connectivity for exporters and logistics providers in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region while easing pressure on the existing cargo infrastructure at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The inaugural shipment demonstrates NMIA’s readiness to handle international cargo and support growing trade volumes.
With dedicated cargo facilities and modern handling infrastructure, NMIA is poised to become a key logistics gateway for western India. As cargo operations expand, the airport is expected to enhance supply chain efficiency, improve export competitiveness, and attract airlines and freight operators seeking additional capacity in one of India’s busiest aviation markets.
