India has responded to an attack on an LPG tanker operating in waters off the Iranian coast, confirming that all Indian crew members aboard the vessel are safe. The government said it is closely monitoring the situation and remains in contact with the ship’s owners, local authorities, and diplomatic missions to ensure the welfare of the crew.

According to official sources, the tanker sustained damage during the incident while transiting through a strategically important maritime corridor in the region. Despite the attack, the crew remained unharmed, and the vessel’s condition is being assessed before further operational decisions are taken.

The Ministry of External Affairs said Indian authorities are coordinating with relevant stakeholders to provide any assistance required and are closely tracking developments. The incident has renewed concerns over the security of commercial shipping in the Gulf region, where geopolitical tensions have periodically disrupted maritime trade and raised risks for merchant vessels.

Shipping companies operating in the region continue to review voyage plans, strengthen onboard security measures, and monitor advisories issued by naval forces and maritime authorities. Any escalation in regional tensions could affect tanker movements, insurance costs, and freight rates for energy cargoes passing through key sea lanes.

The latest incident highlights the ongoing vulnerability of international shipping in the Middle East and underscores the importance of enhanced maritime security cooperation to safeguard global trade routes and ensure the safety of seafarers.
