The Port of Rijeka in Croatia has welcomed the AICC Huanghu, marking the first arrival of a Ro-Ro vessel from China at the port’s Ro-Ro terminal. The call establishes a new direct connection between China and the Croatian port.
The 199.9-metre-long vehicle carrier delivered more than 2,000 vehicles manufactured in China. The vehicles are destined primarily for markets in Croatia and neighbouring countries, with onward distribution planned by road and rail.
The milestone strengthens Rijeka’s position as an automotive logistics gateway and supports the port’s efforts to attract additional China–Europe vehicle trade. Port officials said the new connection could encourage other Chinese vehicle manufacturers to consider Rijeka as an entry point into the European market.
Rijeka already handles vehicles for several major automotive brands, and the port expects automotive volumes to reach around 60,000 cars and light commercial vehicles in 2026, compared with approximately 22,000 vehicles handled during the first half of the year.
The latest China call adds another important trade flow to Rijeka’s growing automotive business, reinforcing its role as an Adriatic gateway to Central and Southeast European markets.
