GAIL Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited (GMPL), a subsidiary of GAIL (India) Limited, has marked a significant milestone with the formal commencement of its PTA commercialisation journey, accompanied by the launch of an integrated multimodal logistics model covering rail, road and sea transportation.
A Contract Signing Ceremony held on September 10, 2026 marked the formal beginning of the container yard and multimodal logistics operations for PTA. The purpose-built container yard will support dedicated warehousing, container handling and efficient evacuation of PTA through multiple modes of transport.
The entry into Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) marks GAIL’s first foray into the PTA business and strengthens its presence across the petrochemical value chain. PTA is a critical raw material for the polyester and textile industries, and the initiative is expected to contribute to greater domestic availability of the product, reducing India’s dependence on imports.
The logistics model has been designed with a customer-centric approach, incorporating dedicated storage facilities, container handling infrastructure, multimodal evacuation and strategically located stock points to provide reliable and flexible supply to customers.
The scale-up of GMPL is therefore not only the addition of a new product to GAIL’s portfolio, but also the creation of new market linkages and logistics capabilities connecting the petrochemical sector with India’s textile value chain.
The initiative is expected to support the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision by strengthening indigenous PTA manufacturing capacity while enabling more efficient and market-responsive distribution.
With commercial operations approaching, GAIL and GMPL are focusing on seamless execution and building long-term value for customers, stakeholders and the wider petrochemical and textile ecosystem.
