Anglo-Eastern has added a groundbreaking vessel to its managed fleet with the induction of MT Spa, an LR2 crude oil tanker owned by Union Maritime Ltd. The vessel is the world’s first to combine LNG dual-fuel propulsion with advanced wind-assist technology, marking a major milestone in sustainable tanker operations.
Built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Holdings, MT Spa is equipped with WindWings technology developed by BAR Technologies, enabling significant emissions reductions and fuel efficiency gains. The vessel has been designed to comply with FuelEU Maritime regulations through 2040, underscoring its future-ready environmental credentials.
Performance data indicates that MT Spa delivers nearly a 50% improvement over the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) baseline and exceeds the EEDI Phase 3 requirement by more than 27%, positioning it among the most energy-efficient tankers in its class.
Anglo-Eastern expressed pride in being entrusted with the technical management of the landmark vessel and congratulated Union Maritime and all partners involved in the project’s successful delivery.
MT Spa is currently under the command of Captain Mario Christopher Harold Aranha and Chief Engineer Harkesh Yadav, as she embarks on operations representing a new era of cleaner, innovation-driven maritime transport.
