A cargo ship believed to be taking arms and ammunition to Israel was blocked by around 100 protesters that stormed the Port of Oakland, reports New York Post.

Arab Resource and Organizing Center held the demonstration at the California port. AROC press coordinator Wassim Hage in a statement said, “We’re sending the alarm that the US government is, in fact, sending these weaponsto Israel.

We want people to be aware that the US is going to continue to use our ports to facilitate the genocide of Palestinian people in Gaza.”

Following Israel’s strikes in Gaza, protests have occurred in various locations around the world. Israel took this action in response to Hamas’ October 7 attack on civilians, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives, including families, children, and infants, with over 1,400 Israelis killed in the attack.

It remains uncertain whether the ship was actually transporting weapons or headed for Israel. Some demonstrators attempted to board the ship, as reported by AROC’s executive director, Lara Kiswani.
