CMA CGM will introduce a revised Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on cargo moving from North Europe to the United States, with the new charges taking effect from September 20, 2026, until further notice.
The surcharge will apply to shipments from ports across North Europe, including North France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scandinavia, Poland, the Baltic region and northern Spain. Portugal is excluded from the origin range.
Under the revised tariff, CMA CGM will charge US$1,000 per 20-foot container and US$2,000 per 40-foot, 40HC or 45-foot container. The PSS covers both dry and reefer cargo, while out-of-gauge (OOG) shipments are excluded.
The surcharge will apply to cargo destined for the US East Coast, US West Coast and US Gulf, including inland destinations reached through these gateways. Other applicable charges, including bunker-related surcharges, terminal handling charges and security fees, may also apply.
The latest increase comes as carriers seek to adjust pricing on the North Europe–US trade amid changing market conditions and peak-season demand. The revised PSS is expected to raise shipping costs for exporters moving containerised cargo from Europe to the US.
