Canadian shipping company CSL Group has expanded its modern fleet with the delivery of the self-unloading bulk carrier CSL Kuleana, received from Jiangsu Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding on May 29. The vessel is currently undertaking its maiden voyage and represents the fourth of five Kamsarmax-class newbuildings being introduced under the company’s ongoing fleet renewal program.

Developed in partnership with CSL’s pool partner, the new vessel is part of a strategic initiative to replace older tonnage with more efficient and environmentally advanced ships. Designed for dry bulk transportation, CSL Kuleana offers a cargo capacity of 72,250 tonnes and is equipped with a high-performance self-unloading system capable of discharging cargo at rates of up to 5,000 tonnes per hour.

The Kamsarmax-class design provides operational flexibility across a wide range of bulk trades while maintaining reliable service standards for customers. According to CSL Group, the new series is expected to deliver approximately 40% greater efficiency compared to the vessels it replaces, driven by lower fuel consumption and enhanced cargo-carrying capabilities.

Supporting the industry’s transition toward greener shipping, the vessel is fitted with IMO Tier III-compliant, methanol-ready engines and has been designed for shore power connectivity, enabling reduced emissions during port stays and compliance with future environmental regulations.

The delivery of CSL Kuleana underscores CSL Group’s commitment to fleet modernization, operational efficiency, and sustainable maritime transportation. The company currently operates a diversified global fleet of 96 vessels, including self-unloaders, transhippers, cement carriers, bulk carriers, multipurpose vessels, tugs, and barges.
