Russia’s FESCO transport group has expanded its FESCO Caravan Shuttle rail container service by adding Urumqi in western China as a departure point for shipments to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, strengthening rail freight connectivity between China and Central Asia.

Since late August 2026, FESCO has dispatched four container trains from Urumqi to Chukursay station in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and Burundai station near Almaty, Kazakhstan. The trains travelled through the Khorgos–Altynkol border crossing, with an average transit time of nine days.

    Regular Services Planned

FESCO plans to operate shipments from Urumqi at a frequency of at least one container train per month, with future departures guided by customer demand. The new route complements existing services from Xi’an and Chengdu, expanding the company’s reach across western China.

Urumqi is a key trade and logistics centre connecting western China with Central Asian markets. Its inclusion gives exporters and freight forwarders another option for moving containerised goods to regional destinations.

    Wide Range of Cargo

The FESCO Caravan Shuttle service handles various cargo categories, including consumer goods, industrial products, machinery, equipment and components. The company can also arrange pre-carriage within China and road transport to customer warehouses in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

These integrated services allow FESCO to offer door-to-door logistics solutions, combining rail freight with road transport for cargo collection and final delivery.

    Strengthening China–Central Asia Trade

Launched in July 2026, FESCO Caravan Shuttle was developed to transport containerised cargo from Chinese cities to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan through land-border crossings, including Dostyk and Altynkol.

The addition of Urumqi expands departure choices for shippers in western China and may support more efficient cargo consolidation and delivery planning. The new connection also strengthens FESCO’s regional network as demand for cross-border container transport continues to develop.

With regular departures planned, the company intends to build the route in line with market demand and provide shippers with additional rail-based options for trade between China and Central Asia.
