Goa will host a high-level coastal maritime governance workshop on 2nd March 2026, as India accelerates efforts to strengthen Centre–State coordination and unlock state-level maritime potential under the Maritime Amrit Kaal 2047 vision.

The workshop is being organised by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), under the administrative control of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, in collaboration with the Captain of Ports, Goa.

Conceived as a structured Centre–State consultative platform, the Goa Coastal State Workshop aims to enhance coastal maritime governance, strengthen regulatory coordination, and align national maritime objectives with State-level implementation frameworks. The initiative forms part of DGS’s ongoing engagement with India’s coastal States to ensure cohesive and outcome-oriented sectoral growth.

Senior officials from the State Government, maritime administrations, port authorities, industry representatives, training institutions, and subject-matter experts are expected to participate in the deliberations.

Discussions will be structured around six strategic pillars:

    Maritime Safety and Casualty Response

    Shipbuilding and Ship Recycling Opportunities

Maritime Training, Skilling, and Zero Corruption in Maritime

    Maritime Crewing and Employment Opportunities

Maritime Sustainability, Environmental Protection, and Decarbonisation

Coastal Shipping, Inland Navigation, and Multimodal Linkages

The workshop will focus on identifying Goa-specific challenges, strengthening institutional mechanisms, enhancing digital integration, and promoting investment-led infrastructure development. Particular emphasis will be placed on employment generation, skill development, regulatory streamlining, and environmentally sustainable maritime practices.

The Goa Coastal State Workshop is expected to serve as a replicable model for structured maritime consultations across other coastal States, contributing to a coordinated and actionable roadmap for advancing India’s coastal maritime sector.
