UAE-based trade infrastructure operator Gulftainer has signed a binding agreement for a strategic investment in Suksawat Terminal on Thailand’s Chao Phraya River, marking its entry into the Thai market.

Located in Samut Prakan, south of Bangkok, Suksawat Terminal serves importers and exporters across Greater Bangkok and has direct barge connectivity with Laem Chabang, Thailand’s main deep-sea port. Gulftainer plans to invest in the terminal’s capacity, productivity and service offering.

The company said the investment will strengthen connections between Bangkok, Laem Chabang and international markets, while supporting Thailand’s manufacturing and distribution networks.

Gulftainer sees Thailand’s industrial base, export economy and position within ASEAN as providing opportunities to expand its regional footprint. The terminal will provide access to key sectors including automotive, electronics, consumer goods, petrochemicals and food exports.

The development will draw on Gulftainer’s GT Ports, GT Logistics, GT Parks and GT Lines businesses, combining terminal operations, inland transport, logistics infrastructure and maritime connectivity.

The company said its longer-term ambition is to develop an integrated trade and logistics platform in Thailand and use Suksawat as a base for further expansion across Southeast Asia. The investment also forms part of Gulftainer’s broader strategy to connect Asian markets with the Middle East, Africa and the Indian Subcontinent.

Financial terms and the size of the investment have not been disclosed.
